Selection process for the post of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the research staff in the Bioinformatics Research Group in the field of bioinformatics (funded by the National Science Centre SONATA BIS 10 programme)

RECTOR of the Jagiellonian University announces a competitive selection process for the post of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the research staff in the MALOPOLSKA CENTRE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY (funded by the National Science Centre SONATA BIS 10 programme) academic field: biological sciences

The competitive selection process is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:

  1. Holding at least a doctoral degree;
  2. Having relevant scientific achievements;
  3. Taking active part in scientific life;


Additional specific requirements:

  1. PhD degree in computer science, biology, bioinformatics, automatic control, physics, mathematics or related disciplines,
  2. excellent written and oral communication skills in English,
  3. expertise in at least one programming language (esp. Python),
  4. expertise in metagenomic data analysis, big data exploration, or in machine learning,
  5. ability to collaborate,
  6. enjoy interdisciplinary work,
  7. understanding of communication and interactions with other members of the Group, collaborators and other members of the Centre.

COVID-19 drug practices risk antimicrobial resistance evolution. A publication by Dr Pawel Labaj and a group of scientists associated with the MetaSUB consortium in The Lancet Microbe.
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest challenges facing modern medicine. Because the management of COVID-19 is increasingly dependent on pharmacological interventions, there is greater risk for accelerating the spread of antimicrobial resistance. A study in a tertiary hospital environment revealed concerning colonisation patterns of microbes during extended periods. It also highlighted the diversity of antimicrobial resistance gene reservoirs in hospitals.
