Max Planck Laboratory has been officially opened at Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology JU
The event started in the morning of April 20th 2016 in front of the MCB building. Invited honorary guests – Jagiellonian University Rector, Prof. Wojciech Nowak, Max Planck Society Vice President, Prof. Bill Hansson, JU Vice Rector, Prof. Stanislaw Kistryn, Nobel Prize Laureate, Prof. Ada Yonath, from Weizmann Institute of Science and Prof. Wolfgang Baumeister, Director of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, together with the Leader of the Max Planck Lab, Dr. Sebastian Glatt and MCB Director, Prof. Kazimierz Strzalka - officially cut the ribbon.
Afterwards all participants moved to Auditorium, where a large audience of students, professors, researchers, deans, rectors, diplomats and the general public were officially addressed by the hosting Max Planck group leader, Rector Nowak, Vice president Hansson (full text of the speech available here), and the MCB director Strzalka. Three seminal keynote lectures were given by our distinguished guests: Ada Yonath, Christoph Mueller, and Wolfgang Baumeister. The afternoon session took place at MCB building where invited guests had a chance to visit MCB laboratories and listen to additional lectures by rising stars of the European scientific community, Sebastian Leidel, Jan Medenbach and Maria Gorna.
