Delta, Alpha, and Omicron - monitoring the genetic variability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Poland

A team of scientists from the Malopolska Biotechnology Center JU, coordinated by Prof. Krzysztof Pyrc, has completed the project aiming to monitor the genetic variability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest challenges facing modern medicine. Because the management of COVID-19 is increasingly dependent on pharmacological interventions, there is greater risk for accelerating the spread of antimicrobial resistance. A study in a tertiary hospital environment revealed concerning colonisation patterns of microbes during extended periods. It also highlighted the diversity of antimicrobial resistance gene reservoirs in hospitals.

Only a few people know that exposure to low doses of UV radiation, has a positive impact on most organisms. For example, the accumulation of UV screening components in plants plays an essential role for gut microflora and human health.

Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences has announced the list of laureates of the 1st of competitions carried out within the framework of the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at Jagiellonian University ("ID.UJ"). The competitions allow to receive financial support for PhD students and participants of doctoral studies at the Jagiellonian University in 3 modules (criteria): Visibility & Mobility, Skills Development and Excellence Module.
