Recent work of the Bionanoscience and Biochemistry Lab at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology has been featured on a journal cover. The work involved reengineering a small protein cage just a few tens of nanometres in diameter such that it could form a new shape. “Designed protein cages could have many uses in the future, including for example in drug delivery” explained Professor Jonathan Heddle, the head of the lab. “But it is very challenging to control their size and shape. A useful property that could allow such structures to adapt to different environments and requirements. The cover image illustrates,  by using two different colours the way in which via some simple changes we were able to cause our protein cage to transform from one shape into another. “
