The Dioscuri office at the Max Planck Society (MPG) organized a workshop for leaders of existing and newly established Polish Dioscuri Centres (DCs), including the Dioscuri Centre for Modelling Posttranslational Modifications at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University, which will be led by Dr Mateusz Sikora from next year.
The meeting was held between 11 and 12 July in Munich at the headquarters of the Max Planck Society (MPG).
Dioscuri is a programme devised by the Max Plank Society and carried out jointly with the National Science Centre. It is aimed to create the Dioscuri Centres of Scientific Excellence in Central and Eastern Europe. The programme is cofounded by the National Science Centre with the funds of the Polish Ministry of Education and Science and by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The workshop welcomed new DC leaders to the Max Planck community and provided them with helpful tools for the establishment and management of their groups. It also facilitated exchange of knowledge amongst the DC leaders, as well as between them and Group Leaders at a Munich-based Max Planck Institute and Max Planck Administrative staff.
The workshop covered various topics and open questions concerning the running of a Dioscuri Centre including: Funding, Budgeting, Reporting, Monitoring, Scientific Advisory Boards, Recruiting, Leading, Networking, Evaluation and Planning for the Future. DC leaders met with MPG President Prof Martin Stratmann to discuss the progress of their Dioscuri Centres and the overall development of the program. Participants also visited the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and exchanged views with Institute director Prof. Matthias Mann, as well as multiple ERC grantees and Max Planck research group leader Prof. Ralf Jungmann.
The workshop concluded with a dinner with Max Planck Institute scientists, which provided a further opportunity for scientific exchange, sharing of experiences, networking, and future perspectives.
