ViroGenetics on the hunt for coronaviruses in European animals - The MUSECoV Project

ViroGenetics on the hunt for coronaviruses in European animals - The MUSECoV Project

ViroGenetics Research Team from the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, headed by Professor Krzysztof Pyrc, participates in the international MUSECoV project: Multi-scale Eco-evolution of Coronaviruses: from surveillance toward emergence prediction.

ViroGenetics - projekt MUSECoV

Within the interdisciplinary collaboration between European Research Centers, work has been undertaken to determine the prevalence of coronaviruses in the wild, companion, and domestic animals. The data and material obtained will be used to understand the evolution of coronaviruses and the actual risk to humans.
The MUSECoV project will result in a better understanding of the global ecosystem of coronaviruses and the dynamics of viral evolution in different ecosystems. The knowledge gained will reduce the risk of another pandemic and enable us to better prepare for the upcoming threats.
Project financed by the National Center for Research and Development under the European ERA-NET CO-FUND ICRAD program. Total funding is 855 899,00 PLN.
The consortium encompasses:

  1. The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES), France – Coordinator.
  2. Universite de Caen Normandie, France.
  3. Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, Poland.
  4. Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Spain.
  5. Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Puglia e della Basilicata, Italy.
