The group is interested in topic on the boundary of regenerative medicine and cancer. It uses reprogramming not only for regenerative-medicine purposes, but also as a model of carcinogenesis.

Researched topics include:

  • anticancer therapeutics preferentially/selectively targeting cancer (stem) cells 
  • differences between normal and cancer stem cells
  • reprogramming-associated carcinogenesis
  • development and optimization of novel transdifferntiation methods
  • interactions between cells and biomaterials, under normal-, hypoxic and electrostimulated conditions
  • development of prosthetics/tissue-replacements required in surgical procedures as required by collaboration partners
  • among biochemical processes studied the group currently investigates apoptosis, autophagy, necroptosis and mitophagy under various pathophysiologic conditions
