Competition for the post of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (ADJUNCT) in the faculty staff group in the Microbial Genomics Research Group (Mostowy Lab) funded by the National Science Centre OPUS 19 programme

RECTOR of the Jagiellonian University announces competition for the post of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (ADJUNCT) in the faculty staff group in the Microbial Genomics Research Group at the MALOPOLSKA CENTRE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY (funded by the National Science Centre OPUS 19 programme)

The competitive selection process is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:
1) Holding at least a doctoral degree;
2) Having relevant scientific achievements;
3) Taking active part in scientific life;
4) Having experience in teaching work – this requirement does not apply to candidates for positions in the the research staff member group.

Additional specific requirements:
  • hold a doctoral degree in a quantitative field like biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science or similar,
  • have strong expertise in genome or protein bioinformatics,
  • manifest a high degree of enthusiasm for the advertised project,
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English,
  • have a very good knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., R, Python, C/C++, Java),
  • provide evidence of a high degree of intellectual independence (including experience in building and managing collaborations),
  • have strong presentation skills (ideally having presented on at least one international conference),
  • enjoy support of and interaction with other group members,
  • have published at least one publication as first-author in an international, peer-reviewed journal,
  • demonstrate evidence of in-depth experience in designing bioinformatics methods or pipelines (ideal candidate),
  • possess in-depth expertise in phage biology and microbiology (ideal candidate),
  • have a strong track record of published research and of having presented at multiple international meetings and conferences (ideal candidate),
  • demonstrate evidence of intellectual independence and leadership via self-obtained funding (ideal candidate),
  • have experience in mentorship/supervision of junior staff members and in project management (ideal candidate).
